Hooray for our new Sanctuary!
Last weekend, Dante & I were thrilled to find a new local game shop! We have been without a real gaming shop since college. I had nearly forgotten the thrill of walking in, the displays of CCGs, miscellaneous sets of dice, miniatures, books…. *sigh* To enjoy that again was heavenly! Plus our new shop, Gamers’ Sanctuary, has video games. Who could ask for more?
For all of us gamers, we know the significance of a game shop, how integral it can be to our everyday gamer lifestyle. But most importantly, we know that our local game shop is one of the few places we can find acceptance.
If you haven’t been lately, I encourage you to visit your local sanctuary and re-acquaint yourself with the thrill of the shop.
And for those of you in Central Illinois, I encourage you to visit the Gamers’ Sanctuary at 1618 Valle Vista in Pekin.
Congrats on your new discovery. Out here in Buffalo, NY we have not had a new game store in some time.
A few years ago, the local game store I went to closed down. It was sad on many levels. First, I loved to walk through the store and browse the books. Second, I use to play Mage Knight and MechWarrior tournaments there. And finally, I envied the owner, who for the time, was “living the dream”, running a game store as his job.
I miss the local game store. Buying PDF’s and ordering books online, isn’t the same as walking the isles of store and getting to flip though a book with your own hands, or strike up a conversation with a fellow gamer.
Congrats again on your find, and enjoy that store. Give it good patronage and hopefully it will be around for a while.
I can commiserate with loss because nothing can ever replace the ability to browse books in a beloved store.
Here’s to hoping someone will bring that dream back to life somewhere close by you!
Wait, you folks are based out of Pekin?
Sunnova…I’m originally from there, and was actually in town last week. And even stopped at the Gamer’s Sanctuary to marvel at its awesomness.
Small world!
I have officially stopped at the Gamer’s Sanctuary and I was very impressed.
Ed, we sure are! If you’re in the neighborhood drop us a line!
